Saskatchewn, and other stuff

Rachel started ballet a couple of weeks ago...

This was quite the accomplishment for her, as she has been super shy and not willing to try a group activity like this. But, she loves it!!

Benjamin had planned on doing karate this year, but decided to go back to gymnastics. So, he started gymnastics this week! He is in with the "big" kids, and it is going well...

I also took him to the BMX track a couple of weeks ago, and he did so well and had so much fun I plan to try and get back a few times before the weather will not allow for it anymore.

We just got back from a week long trip to Saskatchewan to visit grandma. I originally had planned that we would take the week off from school, but then some great ideas came to mind for Social Studies...

First, we were flying over 3 different provinces, so we talked about that while in each airport, as well as watching out of the airplane at the different landscapes of each province we flew through, talking about the flat land in the prairies, and the mountainous Rockies. Once at our destination, I had a couple of great things planned...

We went to the IMAX theatre to see a show called "Rocky Mountain Express". This was perfect! It was all about how the railway started; how the railway was built, who built it, the lives that were lost because of it. It was filled with amazing history of not only the country we live in, but filled with history of our very own province! As well, it was wonderful for us to see because dad works for the railway! It also tied in perfectly with our trip to Hell's Gate and the Fraser Canyon we took this summer...

We will be reading a book all about the Canadian Railway to finish up our unit.

Then, we took a tour of the RCMP museum in Regina, Saskatchewan...

OUr trip was filled with lots of fun, and lots of relaxation as well...

Here are the kids at "Dino-bouncers"...

And, our trip ended with Benjamin loosing his first tooth! Perfect ending...
