School these days

Lots has been going on school-wise these days. The kids have been busy working on there writing in various ways; Ben has been doing a space log book, they have both been doing scripture writing (they are working on memorizing Zephaniah 3:17), and we have been using some writing prompts in addition to our regular book work.

Science has been a lot of fun these days! Ben is studying the solar system, and Rachel is working on daily and seasonal changes. So this has been excellent because they can do a lot together that sort of meshes together.

We made our own moon sand...

The kids took turns putting rocks and marbles in it to make creators and walking our little space man through to make foot prints.

Ben drew this great pic!

Rachel's...

Ben did this...

We took Ben's new telescope out a couple of weeks ago to take a look at the stars and the planets that are visible from earth! So cool! We are also watching the moon phases for the month of March and recording them as we see the moon each night.

We also did a really cool experiment where you shine a flashlight at a mirror to show how the light from the sun reflects off of the moon to light it up!

In social studies, Ben has been studying the government and voting process, Rachel has been working on symbols of Canada and the different regions. Here are some resources we will be looking at next...

Both kids are doing great with their reading! Ben is a whiz in this area, and Rachel has been growing in leaps and bounds. The other day she read to me like this...

I love that homeschooling allows for this creativity, so fun!

Rachel was really struggling in math, not because she couldn't do it but because she was just not responding well to the program we were using. I printed off some addition worksheets off of education.com and she did great!

Ben has been doing some more measurement, temperature reading, and weight. We took a fun trip to the Bulk Barn to weigh jelly beans!

And, of course, Jo has been hanging out watching us every step of the way...

He's going to be so smart watching these two do school!!

We have been enjoying a lot of outside play these days. It has been so beautiful that we have been going for a lot of walks, and even some bike riding! Rachel has been practicing for her ballet recital, and is so excited that the other girls will be lifting her in the year end show. She is reaping the benefits of being so petite ;). Both kids are really enjoying Ninjitsu and are getting no really good at it! It's so fun to watch them learn these great skills, and mommy even started training with their sensei and another friend before the kids' class. Yup, that's right! Look out for the mamas!

So excited for spring in the air, great weather, and Grandma's visit in less than a month! (Shhh, don't tell, it's a surprise for the kids ;)
