Around the World

So, I started a Social Studies project with the kids today that I am calling "Around the World"...yes, I think it is a very unique title, as well :P
We will be taking 9 weeks to do a trip, yup you guessed it, around the world! We started with Mexico today, and will be "travelling" to all 7 continents. Each "trip" will include facts on climate, landscape, culture (food, music, etc), animals, sport. We will be learning the flag of each country we visit, do crafts and activities, and even try various foods from each place. Each trip starts out with a plane ride, complete with a bag they have packed themself with a few items they may need on their trip, as well as their boarding pass and passport which will be "stamped' at each destination.

The kids learned how to say "hello" and "thank you" in spanish! Benjamin was singing "hola" over and over in the shower that evening! And, repeating "gracias, gracias" for no reason but to hear himself say it! We also learned how to count up to 10...although we, including myself, could only remember numbers 1 to 3

The kids got to drink straight from a coconut...

I think the look on Ben's face says it all!

However, the banana coconut smoothies were a hit!

After a much needed break, and a visit from some friends, we went back to it, creating our own beach scene out of tissue paper waves, a sandy beach, toilet paper roll palm trees and sea shells that Benjamin and I collected together on a real Mexican beach over 2 years ago!

To finish off our busy day, we had a taco dinner...

...followed by the best part of the entire day-apple dessert enchilladas!! YUM!

What a fun day! Can't wait for next week when we will be joined by our friends on our next adventure!
