These Days

I am finding that more and more I am truly embracing our new way of life. Yesterday, after being at a close friend and neighbour's making (attempting to make) maple candy just like the Ingalls' did in the book we are reading for school, we saw a chicken on the road. Benjamin said "that must be the Browns' chicken". And, even though it wasn't, I loved the sense of community, and farm animals being on the road, and, and, and...

We came home to be greeted by our goat, and the sound of the rushing creek out back. We came in to make a dinner of French toast with farm fresh eggs, straw still in the carton. Later, a good friend showed up sporting carhartt overalls, bearing gifts; a large frozen farm chicken in each hand. Ahhh, farm life :)

Today, after spending the morning building a remote control vehicle with dad and, of course, trying it out (which, by the way, was part of science :) ) we did an hour of school at 1:00 pm. Then, headed over to another homeschool family's house for some of that good ol' socialization we hear so much about :)  Came home and built a fire, for rain is in the air.

I have not yet showered today, nor is my house "in order". And, actually, it really doesn't look half bad. Laundry is almost caught up, but that won't last past the end of this sentence. But, it's ok. Children with dirty hands and feet will be scrubbed lovingly tonight. And, after a good but weary day, I will tuck the kids in and sit in the silence (I hope). Perhaps even start a book I have been anxiously awaiting. I will think up some plans in my mind for tomorrow's day, oblivious (probably) to the fact that the day will not go as I had planned. But, that's really great because I love the unplanned coffee/play dates, an unexpected phone call, a great idea popping up in my brain, an opportunity arising for some great way to learn something. I love that my life doesn't have to be all planned out. After all, God's plans will prevail anyway. I am just along for the ride.
