End of Term 1!!
Ok...so, we made it through term one of two kids schooling; yay!!
Here is what the end of the term looked like...
Science-
We ended off our study on the 3 states of matter with learning about the water cycle. We read from this book...
The kids learned all of the terms and their meaning.
We also made a rain gage...
And, then Benjamin did some science with a friend. Here is the experiment we did...
After the experiment, I had the boys explain the journey of a rain drop by saying "I am a rain drop, and..." then they were to explain where the rain drop would go in the water cycle using the correct words.
This was our introduction to a study on air as well. Today, the kids watched a Magic School Bus episode about air. Then, I asked the kids what they learned about air and they told me all about air pressure. Then, they got to have a lesson on air pressure from dad and he explained how an air compressor works!
Rachel just had her fifth birthday! One of her friends gave her everything needed to plant her own mini garden, which included real seeds! As we planted it, we talked about the needs of living things...
While Benjamin did science with his friend and I, Rachel got to go to a friends house too! They did a needs vs. wants collage...
English-
Here are some writing samples from the kids...
Benjamin:
Benjamin has been working on sentence building, when to use upper case and lower case letters, when to use periods and spacing between words. He is also working on spelling and reading words with different beginning and ending blends such as: th, tch, sh, ch, ck, wh. As well as working on when to use the silent "e".
Rachel:
Math-
We have been doing something fun for the last week or so. We call it "Candy math". The kids use smarties or jelly beans to answer their questions. The best part? Eating the candy when math is done!!
In addition to adding and subtracting, Benjamin has been working on beginners multiplication, division, and fractions...
Rachel has been working on patterns, shapes, addition and subtraction.
PE-
Here is a list of some of the activities the kids have been involved in over the past couple of weeks...
H&C-
Here is a list of some things we are working on in Health and Careers...
We will be continuing with "Canada My Country", as well as responsible care of the environment.
Fine Arts-
Art is always a part of our day to day. Whether the kids are drawing, painting, sculpting, cutting and pasting, or even just dancing around or playing their instruments, the kids are always doing something! We worked on some chalk drawings this past week, and painted some crosses. Rachel got to make a necklace with her friend this week!

And, then Benjamin did some science with a friend. Here is the experiment we did...
The experiment demonstrated how when the cup goes into the water (seemingly empty except for the napkin shoved into the bottom) the air at the top of the glass actually pushes on the water, keeping the napkin from getting wet, until you tip the cup to let out the air and allow the water in.
