True Friends
In school, I was not the popular girl. I was not "cool" or pretty; I was not noticeable. I had very low self esteem due to my less than wonderful step father. But, I am not going to get into that. Later on in my teen years, I had "friends". But, not the right kind. Yes, I was headed down all sorts of paths, all leading into dark places.
On my 30th birthday, a very dear friend of mine gave me the book "One Thousand Gifts", and a journal to mark down my every day blessings. Today, I am increasingly aware of the wonderful gift I have in each one of my dear friends. I am so blessed with wonderful friends who love me for who I am, and even where I am at.
A good friend is hard to find; I may know that more than a lot of people. I also know that because of my hurts and baggage that I, more often than not, was the reason for my difficulty in this area. But, today, I am so thankful for my friends...
Friends who know the insanity of my life, and love me anyway...
Who kidnap me...
Who can enter my home in whatever condition it may be in at the time and be ok with its state...
Who let me use them as guinea pigs for spa purposes...
Who can see me everyday and not grow tired of me...
Who can go weeks without seeing me, but pick up where we left off...
Who know I am a work in progress, and see me through every step of the way...
Who can disagree with me...
Who rub my back at red lights...
Who sing with me...
Who offer to take my children so I can have a couple of hours to myself...
Who cook me eggs...
Who give me eggs...
Who show up in my house beside my bed for an unexpected wake up call...
Who encourage me...
Who trust me...
Who laugh with me...
Who keep my secrets...
Who pray for me...
Who tell me when I am getting ahead of myself...
Who slow me down...
Who run with me...
Who walk with me...
Who talk with me...
Who cry with me...ok, I`m trying...
Who back me up...
Who drink coffee with me...
Who teach me about chickens and goats...
Who help me catch my goat...
Who help me blow dry a chicken...
Who rescue me...
Who always welcome me into their home...
Who let me be me...
To my friends, you know who you are: You are loved. You are cherished. You are appreciated beyond words. I am blessed for having you in my life. I now know the beauty of true friendship because of you. Thank you for being you.
